Frontierland: A Closer Look

(Warning: Pictures and further comments on "Frontierland". Supernatural is the property of the CW network. This is only a fanblog.)

CW Supernatural: Team Free Will

"Frontierland"~ directed by Guy Norman Bee with cinematography by Serge Ladoucer. It's a beautiful episode and is one of the best in season six.

Jared Padalecki plays Sam Winchester, the middle brother in the Family Winchester. Jared Padalecki's energy is engaging as Sam. I feel like it's Mr. Padalecki's enthusiasm for the show and his love for the character that propels Sam Winchester. He's been fun to watch all these years. Sam has been possessed by Meg (Nicki Aycox). He had a destiny with the YED (Fredric Lehne) and Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino). Sam has had a relationship with Ruby, a demon (Genevieve Cortese Padalecki), and has been locked away in a weird CGI pit. It's been a rough road for Sam, but I've had a fun time watching the actor transform himself into Meg, Lucifer, and SoulLessSam.

This particular scene is eye catching. The lighting is beautiful. The set design is captivating and draws me into the scene immediately. The angle of the shot adds another layer to this well directed scene. I find myself looking at all the intricate details of the set. Jerry Wanek, in charge of production design, does an outstanding job in Supernatural.

Here, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and April Telek, show off their comedic skills. Their scene is well timed with some of the best facial expressions in the episode. Timing is crucial in physical comedy, director Guy Norman Bee shows off his abilities with the help of Ackles, Padalecki, and Telek.

CW Supernatural

Sam Hemmings plays the mysterious and wizened Samuel Colt. With dignity, grit, and  inebriation, fans are finally introduced to Sam Colt. I had a feeling he'd be a tormented drunk with a sense of humor, I blame this description on Hemmings and his solid performance.

I truly hope we see Sam again. He's an interesting actor, both physically and vocally.

CW Supernatural: Castiel and Rachel
Misha Collins plays the Angel Castiel. Castiel is a member of Team Free Will; and has a powerful and profound bond with Dean Winchester. Will Castiel's dedication to Dean and Team Free Will be his downfall? Or will it help him fight off the demons within? We'll find out in season seven of Supernatural.

Jim Beaver is most likely the most well rounded actor Supernatural has on it's roaster. Jim Beaver is an experienced stage and screen actor. He is also a screenwriter and non-fiction writer and could most likely teach everyone on set a thing or two about the craft of acting.

It's extremely difficult to take a bad screencap of Jensen Ackles. He's an actor who analyzes the script and his character to find the nuances in the writing. Mr. Ackles excels in this particular aspect of acting, more so than any other actor on Supernatural. He elevates acting to an art, applying intricate details, in order to breathe life into Dean Winchester.

CW Supernatural

Matthew John Armstrong plays Elias Finch/Phoenix. The Phoenix is a calm, cool, mesmerizing, edgy, and sympathetic character. The actor does a splendid job creating a passionate and believable immortal creature mourning the death of his wife. The writers: Andrew Dabb, Daniel Loflin, and Jackson Stewart outdid themselves with this particular character.

CW Supernatural

I just checked out his IMDB page and the actor reminds me of Matt Dillon, specifically when Matt Dillon played Dallas in The Outsiders. Armstrong has a similar robust yet compassionate quality Mr. Dillon had as Dallas.

Talia Derksen is impressive here in "Frontierland", the prep costumer/buyer. The costume design department needs to take a bow for the episode.

I don't need to hear what's going on in this scene. I can see it in the capture. The emotions are in the tilt of Jensen's face. The disappointment is in the knit of his eyebrows. His shoulders are depressed in a show of defeat.

CW Supernatural: Dean Winchester
I love Supernatural, I do, but Jensen Ackles is a talent that shouldn't be lost in the scramble that is the CW network. The CW is a strong network, my favorite show is on the CW network, but the network gets overlooked in terms of being a serious network with strong actors. The CW is often snubbed for the Emmy Awards when it clearly seems to me, and others, that Jensen Ackles should be given an Emmy Award for his consistently excellent performance as Dean Winchester.

Samuel Colt and this mail carrier save the day.
