Being an ardent fan of Ajith Kumar, Silamabarasan is bowled over by the performance of Ajith Kumar in his silver jubilee film, Mangaatha. The actor, who saw the movie at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai, has praised the actor to heavens.

The Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa star saw the movie on the release day. If reports are to be believed, Silambarasan watched Mangaatha two times on the same day. It is said that like every crazy Thala fan, he was dancing and blowing the whistle, when ever a punch dialogue, song or an action scene appears on-screen.

Simbu, who was busy filming Osthi in Mysore, cancelled the shoots of his upcoming Tamil film to watch Mangaatha on its opening day. (OI)

Shruti Haasan getting too expensive for producers

Shruti Haasan getting too expensive for producers

September 2, 2011

Reports say that upcoming starlet and actor Kamal Haasan’s daughter Shruti Haasan is turning out to be quite expensive for her producers. The talented Shruti had already debuted as actress in Bollywood and Tollywood with not much success and is now trying out her luck in Tamil by debuting as Suriya’s heroine in director A.R. Murugadoss’ upcoming film ‘7aam Arivu’.

It is said that the producer is made to cough up Rs.60,000 for a day’s expenses for Shruti Haasan as she comes along with her entourage. Her costumer, touch-up artiste, make-up women and car driver are all to be paid off hefty sums by the producers for each day till the schedule is completed.

Most of the leading actresses get their fee including the allowances to be paid to their personal attendants like make-up artistes. Shruti, however, dares to be different and makes the director bear the burden of taking care of her assistants. A rough estimate puts these expenses alone at Rs.60 lakhs! (KT)

Mangaatha movie review

Mangaatha movie review

August 31, 2011

Excitement and Expectations are the two Es, which are associated with Ajith Kumar's 50th movie Mangaatha (Mankatha) release. As expected, Thala rocks the show with his styles, actions and performance. However, the overdose of stunts and useless characters in the film are irritating at parts. Read on for Mangaatha review.

Story:

Sanjana (Trisha)'s father Arumuga Chettiyar (Jaya Prakash) devises a plan to steal 500 crores, the money, which was used for gambling during Indian Premier League. His gang includes Sumanth (Vaibhav), Prem (Premji), an IIT graduate, Mahat (Mahat Raghavendra), Ganesh (Ashwin Kakumanu), a sub-inspector at Dharavi in Mumbai. After their plan to rob comes to know, suspended cop Vinayak Mahadeva (Ajith Kumar) joins the team of thieves. On the other end, super cop Prithvi (Arjun Sarja) takes oath to uproot the betting business.

How they execute their plot? Will they succeed in their mission? What measures Prithivi take to bring the betting business to halt? Answers for all these questions should be seen on-screen, as the excitement of watching the movie will be lost if one reads here the entire story.

Performance:

Ajith Kumar's fans could not have expected for more from their star, as the actor has given his best performance till date. His acting, salt and pepper look with the negative shade in his character are treat to watch. Especially, he impresses the audience during action sequences. Arjun Sarja has proved, why people call him as 'Action King'. He has perfectly fitted the bill. Trisha has not got much to do in the movie. But she excels in her limited role. Vaibhav is good. However, Premiji is not a right choice for the character, as his antics fail to evoke any response from the viewers. Even newcomer Mahat also disappoints you. Jaya Prakash is at his usual best. Rest other character like Anjali and Andrea Jeremiah, who will be seen as Vaibhav and Arjun's wives, are okay.

Technical:

The action scenes are the plus and minus points of the film. Even thought, it has been wonderfully shot, overdose of those scenes in the second half play spoilsport. Nonetheless, watching Ajith Kumar's saying 'I am a mad man' and 'money money money' during stunts are good to watch. Shakti Saravanan's photography is excellent, choreography is simple but energetic. Editor Praveen KL could have been bold in his work, as some scenes are dragging at parts. Music and Songs picturisation are apt. Finally, Venkat Prabhu's direction and screenplay.

Well, the director has almost succeeded in his first ever film with a big star. The filmmaker has fabricated the story keeping all the successful elements at one hand and the tastes of Ajith Kumar's fans at other. Had he not lost the grip on the script, the movie would have undoubtedly become one of the biggest hits of Thala. The screenplay is dragging and gives you a boring experience. Adding to that, too much of characters does not help the proceedings and it is only in the last 30 minutes before the interval, the story becomes interesting. The second half thrills you with twists but irritates with too much of action sequences. However, Arjun and Ajith's climax scene is wonderful shot.

Verdict:

Mangaatha has all the entertaining elements. It is especially for Ajith Kumar's fans and the people, who love action-oriented movies. Family audience may not like the subject. One should watch for the actor's performance and Venkat Prabhu's attempt to make the movie in Hollywood style with local budget!

Cast: Ajith Kumar,Trisha,Arjun Sarja, Viabhav and others

Director: Venkat Prabhu

Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja

Cinematography: Sakthi Saravanan

Producer: Dhayanidhi Alagiri

Released On: August 31, 2011 (OI)

Amy Jackson joins Kamal Haasans Viswaroopam

Amy Jackson joins Kamal Haasans Viswaroopam

August 30, 2011

British Madame Amy Jackson has landed the plump offer to showcase her skills in another Kollywood movie. Amy will play the lead in none other than Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasans upcoming project Viswaroopam. Amy made her thumping Tamil debut with director Vijays’ Madrasapattinam. The young lady has made quite a name for her Liverpool temperament as she earlier walked out of Gautham Menon’s Hindi remake of the well acclaimed flick ‘VinnaiThaandi Varuvya’ after which she has grabbed the Kamal movie in her kitty .

Kamal’s Viswaroopam went on floors recently at the Jeppiar College of Engineering and surprisingly Kamal was happy to find namma ‘Suriya’ shooting at the same college for KV Anand’s Matraan. Kamal seems to be more than content getting Amy on board, as he was in search of a foreign face as per the script demanded. His big budget trilingual (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) will also have Rahul Bose playing the anti-hero with Bollywood trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy providing some delightful music.

Hope Kamal won’t have more problems dealing with Amy’s hot tempers. (KT)

Seeman-Vijayalakshmi Issue Confuses Media

Seeman-Vijayalakshmi Issue Confuses Media

June 4, 2011

Seeman’s current rise in politics is the reason for the allegations made by Vijayalakshmi, say sources. However, some sources claim that there are enough evidences for the complaints made by Vijayalakshmi.

A Congress man who recently joined the Congress from the ADMK was the one who first sent text messages to leading reporters on the issue, adds another source. Vijayalakshmi, in the meantime, has threatened to come out with photographic and video evidences of their relationship.

Some reporters who visited Seeman have also stated that they have seen Vijayalakshmi bringing lunch for Seeman. It is also said that she had complained only after Seeman decided to marry an Ealam Tamil girl before which he wanted to remain a bachelor all his life.

Some close to Seeman say that this must have been already planned by the Congress or the DMK to have Vijayalakshmi come close to Seeman. The advocate of Seeman has filed a defamation suit against Vijayalakshmi claiming Rs. 5 crore from the actress.

Whether or not Seeman had been in love with her would turn public knowledge within a few days. If Seeman’s decision to marry an Ealam girl were the reasons for Vijayalakshmi’s complaints would also be known. (TK)

Kamal to re-launch Shruti Haasan

Kamal to re-launch Shruti Haasan

August 20, 2010

First it was mom Sarika whose good friends were used to launch daughter Shruti Haasan's career in Hindi cinema. Now, apparently dad Kamal Hassan has taken over the responsibility to put his daughter's career on the right track in Bollywood.

Her first attempt at stardom in "Luck" was a big fiasco. So now "Ghajini" director A.R. Murugadoss has been asked to create an impressive re-launch film for the pretty actress.

Murugadoss admits that his multilingual film "Ezham Arivu" ("The Seventh Sense") is planned as a re-launch for Shruti in Bollywood.

"It is a medical thriller with some of the most costly special effects ever done in southern cinema. We want to take the sci-fi to a new level in the South. Shruti has a very powerful role and yes, we're hoping it would launch her career in Hindi cinema," said Murugadoss.

The story goes that Murugadoss had gone to Kamal Haasan to collaborate on a project. Instead Kamal suggested that he work with Shruti whose experience in Mumbai was far from satisfying.

That's how Murugadoss ended up signing Shruti opposite Suriya in the Tamil "Ezham Arivu" ("The Seventh Sense"). Originally the film was meant to be in Tamil and Telugu. But now a Hindi version is also being made. It will be made in Tamil Nadu. (GUL)

August 19, 2010

There was a report recently that filmmaker Mani Ratnam is planning to cast actor R. Madhavan and Vidya Balan in his next movie. But Madhavan has denied this report of starring in Mani Ratnam’s next project.

The actor posted a tweet on his page in Twitter saying that unfortunately he has not signed any such project with Mani Ratnam and Vidya Balan. However, he would have loved to do a film with them if given an opportunity. Mani Ratnam’s story was supposed to be a love story.

Money Paid But No Song From Rahman…

Money Paid But No Song From Rahman…

August 19, 2010

As if the corruption controversy is not enough, the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee seems to be having no issues in blowing away money. Reliable sources have revealed that a whopping Rs 20 lakhs was spent just for calling A. R. Rahman for the launch of the music CD of the Games anthem.

It is heard that Rahman said he would reveal the lyrics of the song in another 10 days and hence the CD could not be launched. Queries are already being raised as to why so much money was spent on the press conference even after the organizers knew the song wasn’t complete.

Apparently, Rahman said he had been hearing a lot of “bad stories” about the CWG but was positive that they were not true. The Oscar- winning composer urged the media to portray a positive image of the country. While not much has been spoken about the amount, perhaps Rahman must realize how the organizers have been misusing the funds and bringing shame before saying anything. (AG)
